UC Berkeley Washington Program
Internship Action Form

The following information helps us help you in securing an internship.  As explained in the program informational meetings and orientations, you must first spend some time researching and evaluating not only what field or area in which you would like to work, but also what type of organization will be a good fit for your style and allow you to get the most from your internship.  The next step is applying for an internship.

Submitting the three internship preference segments below means that you have completed your background research and have moved on to the internship application stage.

We first of all need you to rank your top three applications.  These are the only ones in which the program will expend resources in helping you.  Experience has shown that  when students apply to more than three internships, they are not yet clear as to what they exactly want to do in Washington.  So these three applications should be well thought through and serious ones.

Second, we need precise information.  For example, the person with whom you spoke at a potential intern site is not just “Linda” but someone with a first and last name, a job title, and a phone number.

Third, we need full and complete information about your internship applications.   Most important in this regard is the “inquiry/application details” box for each of the three internships.  We need to know the exact date you mailed, faxed or emailed an application and to whom at the organization. Is your application complete?  If it is not, what is outstanding and what is the schedule for completing it?  There may be legitimate reasons for not completing an application at this time such as applications will not be accepted until a particular date or Dr. Goldstein or Kathy Slusser must first make an advance call to the organization.  When will the organization make a decision about your application?  If much of the preceding information is based on emails or phone communication, with whom did you communicate?   In sum, before submitting the information about your internship preferences, make sure there is sufficient detail included for us to push your application or inquiry along.   If there is not, we cannot.

Please keep in mind that if you have already applied and accepted an internship, you need only to include information about this internship in the “first internship preference” section below.  But in all other situations, YOU MUST HAVE APPLIED TO OR MADE A  SERIOUS INQUIRY TO AT LEAST THREE INTERNSHIPS AND SUBMITTED THIS FORM BY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2007.

***DR. GOLDSTEIN MUST APPROVE ALL INTERNSHIPS PRIOR TO STUDENTS ACCEPTING POSITIONS.***
