Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I submit my work to The Thinker?

The Thinker is intended to be a different type of journal from the traditional undergraduate publications already on campus -   as a specifically interdisciplinary journal. So your paper or cartoon might end up next to work from a psychology student, an interview with a prominent neuroscientist or a program from a CS major. This interdisciplinary aspect is what makes The Thinker different from all other publications on campus. We are striving to inform and educate each of the disciplines that are involved with Cognitive Science about things happening in the others.

What sorts of things can I submit?

You submit anything that you might like; scientific papers, artwork, poetry, humorous quotes, etc. Anything that relates to the mind in some way. Remember the purpose of The Thinker is to promote the scientific study of cognition at Berkeley; encourage interdisciplinary cooperation; and try to open lines of communication between the fields of cognitive science. This can be best accomplished by accepting work from a variety of perspectives.

How long can papers be?

Any length whatsoever. We will be evaluating the papers on their own merit, and don't have any rules about length.

When will I be notified if my submission is accepted?

The deadline for submissions is rolling, so it is best to contact us as soon as you intend to submit a work (- whether or not it is complete). It will take at least 2 weeks to decide on what is accepted and what we reject.
