Staff Positions

Berkeley Undergraduate Journal is always looking for qualified, enthusiastic individuals to join our staff and provide intellectual and organizational leadership for our journal.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Editing Staff

  • participate in efforts to recruit submissions reflecting the best academic work of Berkeley undergraduates
  • review articles and make editorial decisions regarding what to publish
  • work closely with authors to help them turn selected articles into polished, publishable pieces
  • compile manuscripts for publication, learn nuts and bolts of publishing

What are we looking for?

Candidates are chosen for their:

  • willingness to make a commitment to the journal (a minimum of one semester, preferably multiple semesters);
  • specific skills and experience relating to the position for which they are applying
  • understanding of and ease with academic writing and the talent to read critically in a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines is necessary

Leadership opportunities for returning staff members:

  • the Editor-in-Chief provides overall leadership for the journal, particularly the Editing Staff, and works closely with the University Advisor to oversee the journal's operations;
  • the Managing Editor oversees the Business/Marketing Staff, which focuses on advertising and selling the journal.
  • INSTRUCTIONS
  • Obtain an application (To view the application on-line, download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader, or pick up a hard copy of the application from the bulletin board outside 313 Campbell Hall).
  • Submit the appropriate supplemental materials for the staff(s) to which you are applying. Refer to the table on the application form. If you are applying for both Editing and Marketing positions, you should submit only one cover letter with all the appropriate information.
