Class Description
The course will present general principles relevant to the rights of individuals under the age of 18 as elaborated in international human rights instruments, primarily the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The seminar will give participants the opportunity to explore a selected health-related topic of their choosing in an in-depth research paper.

Human rights principles and institutions relevant to the rights of the child

The Convention on the Rights of the Child: Politics and Practice
Session 3: April 13
Introduction and discussion of paper topics
Session 4: April 20
Best interests of the child and their consistency with the "evolving capacities of the child"
Session 5: April 27
Non-discrimination
Session 6: May 4
Right to life, including survival and development
Session 7: May 11
Right of the child to express their views and to be heard
